Fast Track Tutorial for Setting Up a Database-stored Document Set

This tutorial enables you to quickly set up a web server to serve an HTML-based document set that is stored in a database. The Fast Track tutorial’s goal is to get you to up and running in the shortest amount of time possible. The database is already populated, the configuration files are all set up already, and all of the files are already in the correct directories. The downside of having all of this set up for you is that you won’t learn as much as if you were to set it up yourself. If you want to learn more about what’s going on, check out the Standard version of this tutorial.

The following lists the programs and file you will need to download for this tutorial. Create a temporary directory, such as c:\winwriters, on your machine to store these files until you need them, later.

File/Program

Size

URL

Java SDK

37MB

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html (Download the Java SDK that is appropriate for your platform, not the JRE.)

Note:

Some browser settings will cause the winwriters-fasttrack.war file to be renamed to winwriter-fasttrack.war.zip. If this happened to you, rename the file back to winwriters-fasttrack.war.

Once you have downloaded the file and program listed above, you’re ready to move on to setting up the Tomcat web server on your machine.
